The way the MLB postseason is set up is so dumb. They go out of their way to make it dumb too.
First of all, the best record should have home field advantage throughout the entire postseason, except in the LDS where a Division Champ should have home field if it plays a Wild Card team. But especially in the World Series, the team with the best regular season record should TOTALLY have home field advantage. They’ve earned it.
You have 1 bad All-Star game, and that’s reason to mess with home field advantage in the World Series? Don’t you think that’s a little overreacting? You run out of pitchers, and the game ends in a tie. Who gives a crap! It’s an exhibition game! Start every inning with a runner on 2nd in extra innings. Give every batter a 1-1 count. Whatever.
But don’t mess with the World Series, the most important set of games in a Major Leaguer’s career. An exhibition game isn’t an exhibition anymore if it counts for anything other than to have fun.
And what’s with the 1-game play-in game between Wild Card teams? In case of a tie, by all means have a 1-game playoff. But just because you have some exciting Wild Card races that come down to the last game of the season, why do we have this artificially created “1-game playoff” scenario? Make it a 3-game series or do away with it.
If this all makes too much sense, I apologize.
